Smith Tool EZ Rivet Tool (#R3030)
The Smith Tool R3030 is a heavy-duty cast iron rivet tool for removing and replacing sickle sections right on the machine — no need to pull the entire sickle bar off the mower. This design has been around since the late 1950s and hasn't changed because it doesn't need to. It presses out old rivets and brads new ones in with far less hammering than doing the job with a punch and ball-peen hammer. The two-way reversible anvil handles both standard round-head and countersunk rivets, and the narrow body fits all sickle bars. Complete tool with all parts and instructions included, and replacement parts are available separately.
How It Works
The R3030 clamps onto the sickle bar and uses a screw-driven punch to press rivets out from one side. To install new sections, you flip the reversible anvil, position the new rivet, and tighten down to press and brad the rivet into place. The mechanical advantage of the screw drive does the heavy work — you're turning a handle instead of swinging a hammer, which means cleaner rivets and less chance of damaging the section or bar.
A Note on Countersunk Rivets
The R3030 does a great job pushing out all rivets and brading the shaft end of standard round-head rivets to a finished result. For countersunk (flat-head) rivets — the type used on most sickle bar mowers — the tool will center the rivet, secure the section, and start the brading process, but you'll want to finish flattening the countersunk head with a hand hammer and anvil to get a fully tight brad. The tool still saves significant time and effort on the job even with that final step.
