TRACTOR STARTER NOT WORKING WHEN I  TURN THE KEY

Shucks !, I have a special project to do.. and-> the darn TRACTOR STARTER WILL NOT WORK WHEN I  TURN THE KEY.

Steve's tips ->
I regret that the tractor is not starting.
Sometimes this type of problem is the hardest to spot and correct.
You may have a "short" in the wiring harness, loose connection at a safety switch or battery, malfunctioning or misaligned safety switch.

Through the years, we've noted these MOST LIKELY places to start troubleshooting.

99% of problems have been caused by some type of debris striking or wedging under the tractor at a linkage that is associated with a safety switch function.

# 1  Main fuse (loose or burned out) for tractor system..  Usually located->  just front (LH) of the radiator or down on the LH rear side of the engine frame.

# 2 The PTO is engaged or linkage is TIGHT or misaligned and not allowing the safety switch to work.

# 3 Loose BATTERY GROUND CONNECTION

# 4 The safety switch under the Hydrostatic pedal  (HST models) is TIGHT or misaligned.

# 5 The safety switch under the hydrostatic speed range (HI/MED/LOW) lever  (HST models) is TIGHT or misaligned.

# 6 The safety switch under the Clutch pedal is TIGHT or misaligned.

# 7 The safety switch under the SEAT (some models) is TIGHT or misaligned.

# 8 A wire or connector has become loose on the ignition switch. (behind the dash)

# 9. Malfunctioning ignition switch

I suggest you check for loose connections or broken wires on the safety switches.
Next, spray switches and linkages with a "WD40 or CRC type" lubricant.  Then wiggle and micro position the levers/pedals while holding the clutch down and ignition start switch to the start position.

99% of the time, You'll find the "problem causing switch" when the engine starts at ONE PARTICULAR micro-position you find while gently wiggling-moving the lever/pedal over the exact spot the micro-safety-switch needs to function.

If all this fails, I suggest that you phone a dealer service manger.
Early on a business day morning.  Service mangers almost never have sitting-at-desk-time for answering email. He maybe able to give you additional tips.
Our service manager is GARY STRICKLAND.  910 892 7171 (voicemail is ext 27).

If all this fails to get the tractor running, you'll probably need a mechanic's help.
