Mowers.
What's the best for "yard" mowing ? Mid-mount or rear? Click
here to see mid-mounted. Click
here to see rear mounted. Click here to see front deck mowing units.
"TRADE-OFFS" No
straight answer to this one. 1. The
mid-mounted mower is more user friendly for ladies and inexperienced operators
because it requires less "looking over your shoulder" than the rear
mounted implement. 2. The total
package operating length with the mid-mount is much longer with a rear mounted
finishing mower, therefore making it "less maneuverable." 3. The
mid-mount mower cost, on average, $600. more. 4. The
mid-mount mower is much more difficult to remove. 5. If doing
serious loader work, the mid-mount mower usually needs to be removed because of
tractor/ground under clearance. 6. (Steve's
opinion and experience) Compared to
the rear finishing mowers, the mid mount mowers give a cleaner "more
crisp" cut appearance immediately at cutting time.
The better appearance last only for the first day after mowing.
After 24 hours of growing time, I cannot tell any difference in the
appearance. This is not
to say the rear mounted cut is very nice, just that the mid mounts seem to
"clip" cleaner. 7. The rear
mounted finishing mower CAN cut over smooth as well as semi-rough areas.
It is often times used for pasture clipping, lawn mowing and cutting road
sides and trails. 8.
The rear mounted finishing mower has a cutting range from 3"-
9" approx., the mid-mount mowers are limited to 2"-5" approx. 9.
The mid-mount mower should be considered only for
lawn mowing. 10. If the only
task you plan to do with your new tractor is lawn mowing, consider a front
deck mounted mowing unit as well. You
trim time will be reduces by approximately 50%. |
