Considering or purchasing three point hitch mounted back hoe?

THREE POINT BACK HOE SAFETY MESSAGE

Dear Shopper,
Three point hitch mounted back hoes are wonderful and helpful tools that may perform countless task for you.   Enjoy your back hoe but please know -- three point hitch mounted back hoes are very dangerous to operate. The accidents on them are rare and seldom meet headline status.

Special and focus time and energy should be made at each and every operation beginning to inspect the unit for all safety parts installation. If the "hitch locking devices" are not properly installed the, the back hoe frame-seat-controls can (if some situations) raise up at a high rate of speed. When this occurs the operator will be pinned/jammed between the "raised position" back hoe seat, control panel (with valves and levers)
and the ROPS and/or canopy. Serious injury and death will likely occur.

More and more compact tractors with new ROPS (roll bars) are being sold.  More and more back hoes will be ordered and installed by customers.  More used units will be sold and swapped direct between "unknowing" individuals.  Special ROPS and canopies are sometimes required to allow for even minimal headroom for SAFE operation at ALL TIMES.  The likelihood of more and more accidents and injuries are inevitable.

So, please take extraordinary caution always to be very focused when attaching the back hoe to your tractor. Do not allow an uninformed person to do the attaching. You see, the hoe will operate and seem to do well in normal digging without the "locking apparatus" being installed. It is, only; when the hydraulics or terrain or certain circumstances occur that the emergency occurs without warning or notice. When it does -- it is so darn
fast, there may not be any time to correct the situation before the operator is pinned against the hydraulic control levers and therefore unable to operate the hydraulic functions and the equipment.

Enjoy your back hoe. Please, just TAKE THE TIME, attach it and use it very carefully. Make sure that you know what the "locking apparatus" consist of on your tractor.
If your tractor needs a "special ROPS (roll bar system) and Canopy that is designed for and allows ample head room clearance for the back hoe operation?  (Even for a tall operators), You install it.

I encourage you to share this note with anyone you know who has now or plans to purchase a three point hitch mounted back hoe.

Best Wishes,
Steve

A special note:
This letter is offered in loving and respectful memory of a wonderful  young local North Carolina gentleman killed by a three point hitch mounted back hoe in 1999.  If this information had been applied, he would still be bringing happiness to all those he touched. He and his father had operated and attached the back hoe over 10 years and were as capable and focused as good folks can be. One slip, one time took the precious life of a 20 year old, loving child, Christian ambassador to his community, NC State student, and "the young man every parent would wish to have." I feel his lose every day
and wish I had the foresight to send this letter earlier.
