Level Loader Bucket, indicators

A shopper recently wrote:" What type of bucket level indicator do loaders have? I am familiar with the rod-in-tube style. Steve answered: The bucket level indicators are really important when loading the bucket, clean up work, fine grading and excavating. On tractors that have poor bucket visibility "from the operator seat," you must have some type of "rod in tube" extending from the bucket-up the side of the loader frame to an indicator (many types) in view of the operator. All HD industrial units, large wheel loaders, large contractor TLBs and the smaller utility and compact tractor-loaders share this common denominator. This is true on all brands and sizes where visibility is "the issue." Based on my personal experience operating the tractor doing real work, I think-> On the compact Kubota and Grande Ls (L3010-L4610), this linkage apparatus is not really needed. Why? -> The operator can easily see the top of the loader bucket from the platform. Hence the "level indicator' is a simple, welded, flat piece of "plate" at the top of the bucket of the right hand side (same as Joystick control valve) Ah ... when the plate is level at the top..... the bucket is level at the bottom. I've used both types for hundreds of hours of actual work. I do lots of demos for customers as well as owned and operated a statewide landscaping and commercial -- governmental grounds maintenance firm for over 12 years. The "rod-in-tube" systems are fine while they are working, however they are usually the first pieces to get bent and to become nonfunctional. Eventually, they are "just removed and/or ripped off" by operators who get "tired" of fooling with them. We have both systems on the old B20 TLBs ... 8 of 10 trade-ins that come in to us -> have no rod-tube left on the unit. The same is true for all the different brands after some "real use".
